- Arrest following suspected kidnapping incident at police headquarters

At the Albstadt police station (Zollernalbkreis), there were accusations of a hostage situation. A 42-year-old man was accused as he allegedly entered the station at the end of June, demanding entry to the cell block to reach a Ukrainian compatriot in custody. This individual was under scrutiny for various assault charges, with one alleged victim being the 42-year-old himself. To strengthen his demand, the man claimed to have a hand grenade and warned he'd "blow it up".

During the roughly 30-minute situation, the suspect kept his hand in his pocket, mentioning an armed hand grenade, as the prosecution stated. "The two on-duty officers, especially given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, genuinely assumed that the suspect had a live hand grenade on him," the prosecution elaborated further.

However, they didn't allow him access and eventually managed to subdue and apprehend him. He was indeed unarmed and had no explosives. No one was harmed.

According to the prosecution, the 42-year-old was heavily intoxicated. He has yet to respond to the allegations. The regional court now needs to decide if a full trial should be initiated.

The 42-year-old's demands were made to the authorities at The Office of the Prosecutor, as he sought approval to enter the cell block. After the incident, the case was handled by The Office of the Prosecutor, investigating the validity of the assault charges against the Ukrainian compatriot.
