Arrest during searches in Frankfurt and Rüsselsheim

Following a series of violent crimes, police have arrested a man during searches in Frankfurt and Rüsselsheim. Weapons and data carriers were also seized during the operation on Thursday, Frankfurt police announced on Friday. The 38-year-old is suspected of playing a leading role in a public conflict between two rival groups that has been going on for several years. The man is also said to have fired shots at a moving car.

According to the police, there was a warrant for the suspect's arrest. Officers from a special task force arrested the suspect in an apartment in Rüsselsheim early on Thursday morning. He is now in custody. A total of six properties in Frankfurt and Rüsselsheim were searched. In one property in Frankfurt, the investigators provisionally arrested two other men. They were released again.

According to the police headquarters, there had already been clashes in Frankfurt in 2021. Among other things, firearms were used and several people were injured, some of them life-threatening. The Frankfurt police headquarters had therefore set up a special commission (SoKo 2804).

The arrested individual is believed to have committed crimes in the RHEIN-MAIN area, given that searches were conducted in Frankfurt and Rüsselsheim. The special commission (SoKo 2804) was established by the Frankfurt police headquarters due to previous violent crimes, including shootings, occurring in the RHEIN-MAIN region.
