The Western Pomerania-Rügen region. - Arrangements are in the works forrefurbishing the Meiningen Bridge.
The Economic Minister, Reinhard Meyer from the SPD, detailed the current state of the Meiningen Bridge replacement plans during a recent press conference. At this stage, the project is undergoing variant exploration, which is expected to be concluded by the third quarter of 2024. This bridge traverses the Meiningen Stream and connects state road 21 between Bresewitz and Prerow in Vorpommern-Rügen.
Replacing the Meiningen Bridge is a crucial aspect of the Darßbahn project. Schulte Hofmeister plans to construct a joint structure for both road and rail, with the road and rail superstructures both relying on the same foundations. The designated bike path will be built on the eastern side of the road span. If all goes as planned, the planning approval process could begin as early as the end of 2024.
This specific structural overhaul is considered the most significant development for the Darßbahn undertaking. After the bridge's completion, the train line extension from the island to Zingst and Prerow will begin. Expert opinions suggest that the restoration of the Barth - Zingst - Prerow railway line will be finalized within the current decade. The entire line's revitalization is divided into four construction sections spanning a distance of 19.3 kilometers.
The complete bridge system is divided into four different parts: the island side entrance bridge, the movable waterway part (trolley bridge), the bridge across the Meiningen Stream, and the mainland side bridging. The bridge project's entirety, not including the connection to the existing road system, entails approximately 500 meters of construction.
