Health - Around ten million euros approved for drug aid
Around ten million euros are to flow into drug help in Bremen over the next two years. The responsible senate decided on the key points of the integrated drug help strategy on Tuesday, according to a senate spokesperson. Cocaine in particular is consumed in the Hanseatic city. However, crack use has also been rising sharply since 2018.
The key issues paper aims to continue support measures such as street work at the main railway station and in the districts of Gröpelingen, Vegesack, Mitte and Neustadt. In addition, the existing drug consumption room will continue to exist, as will the rest and regeneration area, the spokesperson added.
The cocaine and crack scene in Bremen is not only very present around the main railway station, but also in some parts of the city. For this reason, the Senate decided in September to develop an action plan to combat addiction in the city's districts. The cornerstones of the integrated drug help strategy are based on the four pillars of prevention, repression/regulation, harm minimization/survival aid and counselling/therapy.

The approved funding of ten million euros for drug aid in Bremen aims to address the rising use of both cocaine and crack, especially in the city's districts. The Senator overseeing this issue acknowledged the presence of the cocaine and crack scene not only around the main railway station but also in some parts of the city. This necessitated the Senate's decision in September to develop an action plan focused on addiction combat in Bremen's districts. The city's health department is actively involved in implementing this strategy, which includes measures for prevention, repression/regulation, harm minimization/survival aid, and counseling/therapy.
