Around four million patients treated in NRW clinics in 2022

Around 4.1 million patients received full inpatient care in North Rhine-Westphalia's 333 hospitals last year. The average costs amounted to 6521 euros per treatment case, as announced by the State Statistical Office (IT.NRW) on Wednesday. Per capita costs were therefore 286 euros or 4.6 percent higher than a year earlier.

Overall, the costs of NRW hospitals rose by 4.7 percent to around 31.4 billion euros in 2022. Around 26.7 billion euros of this was spent on inpatient hospital care. At 19.3 billion euros, personnel costs accounted for 61.4 percent of total costs. Material costs accounted for more than a third (37.1 percent).

The increase in per capita hospital costs in North Rhine-Westphalia, reaching 286 euros, highlights the significance of maintaining health services within the region's hospitals. Regular health check-ups and preventative care are crucial for maintaining good health and reducing potential future hospitalizations.
