Monument promotion - Around four million euros from the federal government for monuments in Saxony
The Bund makes the restoration of eleven significant cultural monuments in Saxony possible. According to the Regional Development Ministry in Dresden, approximately 4.1 million Euro more will flow from the corresponding special program. The Free State contributes 3.5 million Euro to finance work on the Nikolaikirche, the so-called Kohlrabizirkus and Villa Sack in Leipzig, the Herrnhut Church Hall, the Schlosskapelle Tiefenau, or the railway tracks of the Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf Railway Workshop.
"I am very pleased that the preservation of important Saxon cultural monuments is being considered with such a high amount of federal funds," said Regional Development Minister Thomas Schmidt (CDU). "Monuments are more than just stones or statues, they are a living testimony of our history and a symbol for the cultural identity of a region." They create a sense of home, connection, and identity and shape collective memory.
With the special program, the Bund supports the preservation of monuments significant for the national heritage. According to ministry statements, it has been issued for the 13th time. The Budget Committee of the Bundestag allocated a total of around 47.5 million Euro for objects nationwide, which are co-financed by the respective states.
In Saxony, the restoration of the Nikolaikirche, Kohlrabizirkus, and Villa Sack in Leipzig, among other monuments, will be funded by both the federal government and the regional government. The Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastructure (BMVI) is investing significantly in the preservation of these cultural treasures in Saxony.
