- Around 169,000 challenges filed against property tax judgments
In the Saxony-Anhalt region, roughly 102,600 property tax declaration submissions are still pending, making up about 10.2% of the total. This information was disclosed by the Finance Ministry after receiving inquiries. As of now, around 907,400 declarations have been logged.
About 169,000 objections have been lodged against the recently evaluated property taxes, with around 18,700 of these being resolved so far. Property and land owners were required to submit their property tax declarations by January 31st, 2023.
Starting from January 1st, 2025, the new property taxes are due to be paid out nationwide. As part of this reform, about 36 million properties across the country will need to be reassessed using property owner data. For municipalities, property taxes serve as a significant revenue source. The exact amount each individual owner will need to pay in the future will largely depend on the taxes set by the municipalities.
The Finance Ministry also mentioned that in Saxony-Anhalt, there are ongoing legal disputes regarding the new property taxes. They anticipate that property owners will challenge the assessments through both out-of-court and court proceedings. It remains unclear whether the constitutional issues raised will be recognized by the judiciary and if any modifications will be required.
