Around 1500 people at pro-Palestinian demonstration
Several hundred people took part in a peaceful pro-Palestinian demonstration in Düsseldorf on Saturday. According to the police, the procession through the city center with up to 1500 participants to the NRW state parliament was calm and without any significant incidents. Before the start of the event, the officers had read out conditions - for example that posters with potentially inciting content would be confiscated.
At midday, another rally took place near the main railway station, which also passed off calmly. Around 120 participants attended. A report was made. According to a dpa reporter, most of the participants were doctors with Palestinian roots working in Germany who were calling for an end to the violence.
At the larger rally, several charges were filed for violations of the Assembly Act and suspected incitement of the people. According to the police, a third rally with 60 participants remained without incident.
The organizer of the larger rally with a demonstration march to the state parliament had registered around 1000 participants under the slogan "Stop the aggression". At the beginning of the month, 17,000 people had already taken part in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in the state capital, for which only 1,000 participants had also been registered by a private individual.
A Jewish-Palestinian peace demonstration was planned in Cologne from Sunday afternoon.
Despite the calm proceedings, conflicts arose during the interrogations of those charged for violations at the larger pro-Palestinian demonstration. The escalated demonstrations in various cities across Europe, including one in Berlin, have led to increased tensions and conflicts between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli groups.
