Armored personnel carriers collide during exercise: Twelve injured

Twelve soldiers were slightly injured in a collision between two armored personnel carriers on a training ground at the Werratal barracks in Bad Salzungen (Wartburg district). The Marder tanks collided head-on during a training exercise on Monday afternoon, according to a Bundeswehr spokesperson on Tuesday. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated. According to initial findings, visibility was poor and the tanks were driving sideways against each other in a valley.

According to the spokesman, some of the injured armored infantrymen were treated on site and others were taken to civilian clinics - six soldiers were treated overnight. The injured are members of Panzergrenadier Battalion 391 and no details of the damage could initially be provided. Several media outlets had previously reported on the collision.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks involved in military training exercises. Despite being part of the German Armed Forces, the Military faced an accident involving two armored personnel carriers.
