Armored division exercises enemy defense with soldiers from 14 countries

Soldiers from several countries are currently practising in Franconia how they could liberate enemy-occupied territory between the River Main and the Autobahn 3. The 10th Armored Division, stationed in Veitshöchheim near Würzburg, is training for the first time with the newly subordinated Dutch 13th Light Brigade until the end of November. With this brigade, all brigades of the Dutch field army have been assigned to the divisions of the German army since March.

With the 10th Division, Germany has promised NATO a fully operational large-scale unit by 2025. In order to achieve this despite the equipment deficiencies, the 1st Armored Division is handing over a lot of material to the other large unit and receiving new equipment from the special assets. However, this process will take years.

According to Bundeswehr information from Tuesday, the computer-supported staff exercise called "Schneller Degen 23" will take place at the Wildflecken training area in the Rhön region - with command posts, without troop movements with combat vehicles. The command staff are practising in a computer simulation, for example. The soldiers want to oppose an attack on the fictitious region of "Franconia". Around 2600 troops from 14 countries are involved.

During the exercise "Schneller Degen 23", the combined forces aim to defend the fictitious region of "Franconia" against an attack. The 10th Armored Division, along with its allies, is enhancing its defense strategies and tactics through the collaborative training.
