Architecture Day - Architects open doors to special buildings

Over Trends and particularly successful buildings and landscape projects, the Thuringians could inform themselves about at the Weekend of Architecture. In total, 49 buildings in 27 cities and municipalities could be discovered until Sunday, as the Chamber of Architects announced. The opportunity was given to look behind the doors of otherwise closed buildings and to talk to architects about current developments in building. Many interested parties took advantage of the offer.

Until Sunday, the exhibition "New Architecture in Thuringia" could also be seen at the Weimar Railway Station. In the past years, thousands of Thuringians had accepted the visiting and information opportunities.

This year, under the motto "easily build (anew)", sustainable building was in the spotlight in the existing building stock. Several examples for the reuse and expansion of existing buildings as well as for closing building gaps were shown. This included, for example, the conversion of a barn to modern living space in Ilmtal-Weintraßen. Open were, among others, the parsonage in Thörey near Arnstadt, the research building "World Relations" of the University Erfurt or the renovated festival hall in Ilmenau.

According to the Chamber of Architects, the economic situation of architects, despite the crisis, is at least satisfactory in the housing sector. However, renovation projects and rehabilitations of existing buildings, also from an energy aspect, are becoming increasingly important.
