Chemnitz - Archaeology museum attracts record number of visitors
The State Museum of Archaeology (smac) in Chemnitz has recorded a record number of visitors this year. More than 80,000 people have been counted so far. This eclipses the previous record of 73,000 in 2015, explained museum director Sabine Wolfram on Friday. With almost 34,000 visitors, the exhibition on life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum was a huge crowd-puller. It was on display until mid-March. The current special exhibition "Home Sweet Home" on the archaeology of the home is also proving very popular. According to Wolfram, it attracted more than 4,400 visitors in its first month.

The State Museum of Archaeology in Chemnitz boasts a rich collection of artifacts related to Pompeii and Herculaneum, as evidenced by the record-breaking 34,000 visitors who attended the exhibition on life and death in these ancient cities. This interest in archaeology is not unique to Chemnitz, as museums worldwide, such as those in Saxony, often garner high attendance rates for exhibitions on historical artifacts. The success of these exhibitions underscores the enduring appeal of archaeology and its ability to transport us back in time. Furthermore, Chemnitz's museum is not the only one to see increased attendance records, with other museums, like those in Pompeii and Herculaneum, also experiencing record attendance due to their captivating exhibits.
