- Aquaplaning behind the Elbe Tunnel - short of the suction tube
Due to an accumulation of rainwater on the south side of the Elbe Tunnel on the A7, one tube was temporarily closed in the morning. Many drivers suddenly had to brake heavily due to the water, leading to the temporary closure of the third tube in the direction of the south for safety reasons, a police spokesperson said. Two hours later, the police announced on X that the tube was now passable again. According to the spokesperson, the water was located where the lanes separate and the construction site begins.
The left lane of the A7 through the Elbe Tunnel was closed to allow the highway maintenance crew to pump out the water on the roadway. The other two lanes remained open for use during this time. In the morning, there was heavy traffic due to the closures before the Elbe Tunnel in the direction of the south.
Police information on the closure
The closure of lanes in the Elbe Tunnel led to a disruption in transport and telecommunications, as some commuters relied on using the tunnel for their daily commute or teleconferencing on the move. In the aftermath, officials in charge of transport and telecommunications infrastructure worked closely to ensure a swift resolution to the issue.
