Voting Process - Approximately 800,000 residents of Saarland are urged to cast their ballots.

Today in Saarland, approximately 800,000 citizens are being urged to vote for their municipal councils and the European Parliament. Along with these elections, there are 23 direct elections for mayors, mayors, and county councils occurring, specifically in Völklingen, Saarlouis, Homburg, St. Wendel district, Saarpfalz district, Neunkirchen, and the Saarbrücken region.

A new development this time around is that for the first time ever, 16- and 17-year-olds are allowed to participate in the European election. Age limits for voting in the municipal elections, however, remain at 18 years old. In the EU election, 34 parties have placed themselves on the ballot, while only the CDU is running a separate list for the Saarland in the EU election.

There is currently one European Parliament representative from Saarland, which is occupied by the lawyer Manuela Ripa from the Ecological Democratic Party (ODP). She is vying for the top spot on her party's federal list once again.

For over four decades, the general municipal elections in Saarland have happened concurrently with the European election. The outcomes of the European election in the region are not projected to be announced until 23:00, marking the closing time for the last polling stations across the EU. Results for the municipal elections are not anticipated until Monday.
