In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the upcoming academic year 2024-2025, students have the option to attend an extra voluntary 10th grade at Local Schools and Comprehensive Schools. As per data provided by the Education Department, this opportunity will be utilized by 378 students across 29 classes at 24 different locations. This initiative primarily caters to students who require additional time to grasp the curriculum. It enhances their chances of earning a nationally recognized School Leaving Certificate.

Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (Left Party) expressed her good wishes, stating, "I wish them success in their endeavor to accomplish their personal objectives." For the previous year 2023-2024, 320 students opted for this program at its inception. Out of these, 265 students successfully surpassed, translating to an impressive 83% completion rate.

The funding for this optional 10th grade extends up to 2028, with an investment of 24 million euros sourced from the European Social Fund Plus and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The extra voluntary 10th grade program, available during the school year 2024-2025, will continue to be funded until the academic year 2028. This initiative, initiated in the previous school year 2023-2024, has seen a 83% completion rate among the students.
