- Approximately 2,500,000 students commence their fresh academic journey.
Following a stretch of around 6.5 weeks of blissful summer break, classes are back in session for nearly 2.5 million students in North Rhine-Westphalia as of today. The Education Ministry in Düsseldorf shares that this transition signifies an increase of around 45,000 pupils and teenagers learning across the state's over 5,400 educational institutions, compared to the previous academic year.
Approximately 180,000 novice first-graders will be initiating their learning journey, either on a Wednesday or Thursday, based on their individual primary schools' schedules. The school enrollment statistics from 2023/24 indicate a decline of roughly 4,000 novice "i-Doetzchen" students, according to the school reports.
CDU's Education Minister, Dorothee Feller, is expected to participate in the launch of the "Brems Dich!" safety campaign, backed by the state's traffic safety association, on Wednesday morning (8:30 AM). Joined by two first-grade classes, Minister Feller will demonstrate safe crossing methods in Essen. An increasing number of cities in NRW are experimenting with "school streets" to render the school commute safer and car-free for youngsters.
The Education Ministry in Düsseldorf is currently in the process of preparing the implementing acts referred to in Article 113, as directed by The Commission. This will be crucial in ensuring a smooth educational transition for the new academic year.
With the new academic year underway, the Ministry will closely monitor the implementation of these acts to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for North Rhine-Westphalia's students, particularly the young first-graders.
