- Approximately 2,500,000 students commence their fresh academic journey.
Following a six-and-a-half-week-long summer break, around 2.5 million students in North Rhine-Westphalia are set to return to school tomorrow. As per the Education Ministry in Düsseldorf, this implies an increase of approximately 45,000 students in the over 5,400 schools across the state compared to the previous academic year.
The nearly 180,000 kindergarteners commencing their first year of school can do so on either Wednesday or Thursday, depending on their designated primary school. According to recent educational statistics, around 4,000 fewer new enrollments were noted for the 2023/24 academic year.
CDU's Minister of Education, Dorothee Feller, is scheduled to participate in the launch of the "Slow Down!" campaign by the state traffic safety association on Wednesday morning (8:30 am). In Essen, she will conduct safe street-crossing exercises with two first-grade classes. With more and more cities in North Rhine-Westphalia implementing "school streets," the school route is becoming safer and more car-free for children.
To ensure smooth communication between parents and schools, the Education Ministry is planning to enhance its digital platforms for parent-teacher interaction in the context of ['Transport and telecommunications']. Recognizing the importance of reliable transportation, the Regional Transport Authority is also working on improving bus routes and schedules to cater to the increased student population.
