Mark Sealy: Overview - Appointed: A New Visionary Leads the Triennial of Photography
Mark Sealy is set to become the artistic director of the 9th Photography Triennial, which is scheduled to take place in Hamburg from June 4 to September 30, 2026. His concept proposal titled "Love, Alliance and Infinity in the Face of the Other" won over the selection panel, and he will now be in charge of curating the exhibition and event program for this prestigious photo festival. The Hamburg Cultural Authority made this announcement on Tuesday. Kicking off the festival next summer will be an international symposium, offering a sneak peek into the upcoming exhibition lineup.
In the words of Dirk Luckow, the Intendant of the Deichtorhallen, "We're thrilled to have secured the services of a celebrated curator and author like Mark Sealy. His decades-long dedication to social justice and political change sets him apart. Mark Sealy has been particularly vocal about the importance of decolonizing the Western perspective on photography and uplifting underrepresented voices in the field." In his role as director of Autograph ABP (Association of Black Photographers) since 1991, Sealy has been responsible for launching multiple exhibitions, residency programs, and publishing projects.
