Freiburg in Breisgau: Immersive Exploration of a Beautiful City - Apartment Fire: Origin Undetermined
On Tuesday night, firefighters were able to put out a fire before it could spread any further. One resident suffered minor injuries as a result. The total damage caused by the fire was approximately 20,000 euros.
Andreas Wersch, a spokesperson for the State Firefighters' Association, mentioned on Thursday that it's technically possible for a fire to start from what's called the "burning glass effect". This is when light rays are concentrated through glass. If the ground is dry and flammable, a fire might theoretically be created. However, this situation requires specific conditions – the exposure time needs to be relatively long, and the angle of the sun has to be just right. "Just like in every action movie, it seems to work, but I've never seen it happen myself," Wersch explains.
