According to new findings by the police, a man probably fell asleep with a lit cigarette in his apartment and it caught fire. Firefighters were unable to save him.

Negligent arson - Apartment fire in Frankfurt

New investigations by the police suggest that the man who died in a residential fire in Frankfurt on Monday may have caused it himself. The police suspect that the fire was started negligently. The man is likely to have fallen asleep with a lit cigarette, a spokesperson stated on Tuesday. It is also assumed that the deceased was the owner of the apartment. These findings have not been definitively confirmed yet.

The fire department had reported on Monday that a man had died in a residential fire in Idsteiner Straße in the morning. 24 firefighting forces were therefore on site, but they could not save the man, who was still in the ground floor apartment. The investigations are ongoing.
