The man is likely to have fallen asleep with a lit cigarette, a spokesperson stated on Tuesday. It is also assumed that the deceased was the owner of the apartment. These findings have not been definitively confirmed yet.
The fire department had reported on Monday that a man had died in a residential fire in Idsteiner Straße in the morning. 24 firefighting forces were therefore on site, but they could not save the man, who was still in the ground floor apartment. The investigations are ongoing.
