Antique objects stolen from Hildesheim museum

Three antique objects have been stolen from the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum in Hildesheim. The police are now looking for witnesses. The break-in on Monday night was initially perceived as an unsuccessful theft attempt, as the public prosecutor's office and police announced on Friday. The fact that items were actually missing only became known three days later. Investigators then searched the crime scene again intensively for evidence.

According to initial findings, the burglars entered the building via a window on the second floor. Their stolen goods: two candlesticks and a so-called shoulder pot, an antique vessel. The police initially gave no information about the value of the objects. Possible witnesses are asked to contact the Hildesheim police.

The theft of antique objects from the museum has highlighted the threat of crime in cultural institutions. Despite initial belief that it was an unsuccessful attempt, the realization of missing items led to a renewed investigation at the museum.
