- Anticipation builds for Mozart Weeks Eifel as eight music events approach.

From Church Service to Chamber Recital to Full-Blown Orchestral Show: The decadent series "Mozart Weeks Eifel" returns this year with a jam-packed schedule. From November 2nd to 23rd, eight shows will unfold, as reported by the organizers of the Southwest German Mozart Society in Prüm, Eifel. This event, which originated in 2002, usually occurs every three years.

This year's edition of Mozart Weeks will revolve around composer Joseph Haydn. As a "Mozart contemporary," Haydn, like Mozart, is a staple on international concert platforms, said the festival's artistic director, Georg Mais. The Southwest German Mozart Society orchestrates events all over Germany. However, it's not just Mozart you'll be listening to; as Mais pointed out, "Mozart represents us as a catch-all term for excellent music as everlasting art."

The Eifel begins with a church service at the St. Salvador Basilica in Prüm, showcasing Haydn's "Paukenmesse" performed by local choirs and the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim. The series will end with two symphony concerts by the Ukrainian Philharmonic hailing from Lviv, the west Ukrainian metropolitan area. They will perform Haydn's "Symphony with the Drumroll," among other pieces.

In 2021, under COVID-19 limitations, approximately 1,300 attendees graced the shows. This year, organizers anticipate around 1,600 visitors with fewer shows. The budget is estimated to be around 100,000 euros. The series ranks among the region's more prominent cultural occurrences, sandwiched between the Moselle, Eifel, and Ardennes.

To ensure a successful performance, the artists should maintain their focus during the rehearsals. The focus of this year's Mozart Weeks is not only on Mozart but also on his contemporary, composer Joseph Haydn.
