Anticipates Scholz to propose collaboration from Merz

CDP leader Merz advocates for extensive measures to limit unlawful immigration and encourages the Chancellor to collaborate. However, the Chancellor, at present, appears hesitant to do so.

- Anticipates Scholz to propose collaboration from Merz

CDU head Friedrich Merz assumes Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will accept cooperation on immigration policy. Following a chat with Scholz, Merz stated that the Chancellor should, and will presumably accept this proposal, based on his judgment. They talked about the aftermath of the deadly stabbing incident in Solingen.

Merz is advocating for strong actions to combat unlawful immigration and proposes a joint effort between the Union and SPD for Scholz. The Chancellor didn't provide an immediate affirmative response, but did mention he'd consider it and deliver a prompt answer, according to Merz. "I hadn't anticipated such an outcome, but I wasn't even expecting it or hoping for it." He anticipates the Federal Chancellor to respond within the following few days. "This is the opposition's proposition to the administration, or at least to the administration sectors that are open to collaboration."

It's crucial to reach an agreement during the initial week of the Bundestag's meeting – starting the week of September 9 – to make preliminary decisions.

Merz's proposal for a joint Union-SPD effort on immigration policy aims to combat unlawful migration. If Scholz accepts, it could mark a significant shift in immigration policy discussions.
