In the European election at Lower Saxony, voter turnout is predicted to be similar to 2019. As of 4:30 pm on Sunday, the voter turnout in polling stations was roughly 43%, which is nearly 2 percentage points less when compared to the same moment five years ago, as communicated by the state election office.
With a significant number of applications for postal voting received, the same voter turnout as 2019 - which was 61.5% - is expected by the state election office.
Minutes after the polling stations closed at 6:00 pm, state election commissioner Ulrike Sachs revealed that the European election ran smoothly mostly. The counting of ballots had already started, she added. Sachs thanked the around 80,000 volunteer election workers in the state for their dedication.
