- Anticipated gridlock on holiday: predicted congestion at the border
During the last weekend of summer vacations, Rhineland-Palatinate's highways are predicted to be jammed by ADAC. According to an ADAC representative, the areas near the boundaries with Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia typically experience heavy traffic. As a result, vacationers from Rhineland-Palatinate should anticipate significant congestion, particularly on the A1 and A3 highways.
There's a high likelihood of delays in the Cologne region and heading towards Frankfurt am Main. However, it could also be slow on the A61: drivers will encounter numerous construction sites there. For instance, two substantial valley bridges are being revamped on that stretch.
Numerous vacationers have already returned to Rhineland-Palatinate
The ADAC representative believes that the busiest phase of the summer vacations has already passed: it won't be as chaotic as the last weekend in July, when all federal states were on holiday simultaneously. "Sure, there are still holdouts," he admitted. But many have already returned home.
Those who still have their return journey from their holidays pending can make their trip more manageable. "Leave early in the morning or late at night," the representative suggested. And: "If you need to fuel up, always do so off the highways." This can currently save you around 70 cents per liter.
Despite many vacationers returning home, the weekend ahead is expected to be challenging. Particularly for those traveling through the Cologne region or heading towards Frankfurt am Main, the A1 and A3 highways may still face significant congestion during that weekend.
