Voting Process - Anticipate receiving European election results initially.
This Sunday, the results of the European and local elections in Sachsen-Anhalt will be revealed. Over 2200 polling stations were operational for ten hours. As of 6 PM, vote counting began. The initial European election outcomes are anticipated to appear around 7 PM. Thereafter, municipal election results for city council and mayor of free cities' elections might be unveiled at 8 PM.
A slight decline in voter presence was detected in the polling stations compared to five years ago. Out of 1.8 million citizens called to vote, only 40.5% had cast their ballots by 4 PM. In 2019, the voter turnout was 42.0%. These figures do not include absentee votes.
In 2019, the CDU secured the most European election votes with 23.2% while the AfD took second with 20.4%. Left ranked third with 14.4% and SPD fourth with 12.6%. Greens secured 9.2% while FDP claimed 4.9%.
In addition to the European election, municipal elections for district councils, city councils, and community councils in all eleven district councils and the municipality councils of Halle, Magdeburg, and Dessau-Roßlau are taking place. Voting is also underway for 101 unitary municipalities, approximately 970 municipalities, and a mix of assembly of citizens and mayor elections in association communities. Around 720 seats in district councils and city councils of free cities, 4400 seats in community councils and association community councils, and 6000 seats in community councils are to be filled. Some areas are also holding mayor elections, like in Querfurt (Saalekreis) and Zielitz (Landkreis Börde).
Sachsen-Anhalt's State Electoral Commissioner, Christa Dieckmann, remarked on the voting percentage. Previously, in 2019, the voter turnout was 42.0%. The European election in 2014 saw a voter turnout of 43%, 10 years prior.
In 2019, the CDU won with the highest votes (23.2%). AfD followed closely with 20.4%. Third place went to the Left with 14.4%. The SPD placed fourth with 12.6%. Greens received 9.2%, and the FDP managed to obtain 4.9% of the votes.
For the municipal elections, several positions are being filled. Officials in all eleven district councils, three free cities, 101 unitary municipalities, approximately 970 municipalities, assembly of citizens or mayor positions, community council, and member municipalities' council elections, and 720 district council seats, 4400 community council/association community council seats, and 6000 community council seats are all being determined. Some areas, such as Querfurt in Saalekreis and Zielitz in Landkreis Börde, are even holding mayoral elections.
