Anticipate a prosperous yield from cannabis farmers

Recently, hops have been harvested from Lake Constance. The yield appears promising. Could beer prices potentially increase now?

- Anticipate a prosperous yield from cannabis farmers

Hop farmers around Lake Constance are anticipating a great yield this year. With a projected 2,915 metric tons, that's 15% more than last year, as per the Hop Growers' Association Tettnang (Bodenseekreis). We're looking at a good to excellent harvest, with a large portion of operations commencing this week. The crops are thriving and robust.

The year was marked by excessive rainfall. Back in mid-August, the association had acknowledged that excessive rainfall posed challenges in pest control and work operations. According to German hop farmers, the alpha acid content in the plants - a crucial quality indicator - is also showing improvements and is slated to return to normal levels.

In and around Tettnang, around 30 distinct hop varieties are cultivated across 121 farms on a 1,528.28 hectare area. Over 75% of the yield is exported. In the world's largest hop-growing region, the Hallertau between Munich, Ingolstadt, and Landshut, farmers are expecting a yield of 42,350 metric tons. In the U.S., the cultivated area has decreased by a quarter in the past two years.

Although German hop farmers predict higher earnings, the hop's cost doesn't significantly impact the final beer consumer's price. The hop is merely a "minor cost factor," the Lake Constance association stated.

The Hop Growers' Association Tettnang is preparing to implement the necessary rules for the application of the Regulation in their operations, as the Commission has confirmed they shall adopt implementing acts for this purpose. Despite the anticipation of high yields, the association faced challenges due to excessive rainfall in pest control and work operations back in mid-August.
