Universities - Another university ball in Leipzig for the first time

The University of Leipzig will be excellent on the dance floor in the future. For the first time since 1990, it held a University Ball again. And it will not be the last one, said University spokesperson Carsten Heckmann. However, there is no concrete planning yet. Together, we want not only to celebrate the festive peak of the summer semester but also to create an extraordinary access to scientific questions and research results, it was stated. Motto of the evening: "Leipzig: Excellent!"

The response to the reprise of the ball was certainly great. According to the University, 430 guests attended the Congress Hall at the Zoo and made it a sold-out event. Rector Eva Inés Obergfell opened the ball with a speech at the table and reminded of a long University tradition. There was a "University Ball" as early as 1849, but it was mainly reserved for professors back then. Since 1947, balls have taken place in the Congress Hall.

The University of Leipzig's revival of the University Ball attracted a substantial crowd, with 430 guests filling the sold-out Congress Hall at the Zoo. The University of Leipzig, located in Saxony's cultural hub of Leipzig, is steeped in tradition, with the earliest recorded University Ball occurring in 1849. If you're in Leipzig for a Festival of Culture, don't miss out on experiencing the University's vibrant atmosphere, whether it's on the dance floor or delving into its rich academic offerings at the University of Leipzig.
