Another setback for Saarbrücken: 1:2 in Essen
1. FC Saarbrücken suffered another setback in the 3rd soccer league. Coach Rüdiger Ziehl's team lost 2:1 (1:2) at Rot-Weiss Essen on Sunday. After just three wins in eleven games this season and 14 points, the team that was promoted to the 2nd division last season is only 15th in the table.
American striker Isaiah Young (6th minute) gave the hosts a quick lead after an unintentional header from Saarbrücken's Manuel Zeitz. Leonardo Vonic increased the lead to 2:0 in the 18th minute, with Marvin Obuz, on loan from 1. FC Köln, providing the assist for both goals.
After the second goal, Essen lost their momentum in a good match, which the visitors exploited to score the equalizer five minutes before the break: Midfielder Karim Rabihic passed to Amine Naifi, who shot in from an acute angle. After the restart, Torben Müsel (62) had the chance to increase the Red & Whites' lead, but only hit the post with a shot.
Saarbrücken's struggle in the 3rd league continues, as they lost yet another game, this time against Rot-Weiss Essen. Despite being promoted to the 2nd division last season, they currently find themselves in the 3rd league's 15th position, having only managed three wins so far in the 11 games they've played, earning 14 points.
