Crime - Another offense at Hanukkah candelabra in Berlin

Several Hanukkah candlesticks have been damaged or stolen in Berlin in recent weeks. A chandelier set up in Berlin-Tiergarten was stolen on Tuesday evening, the police announced on Wednesday. During the night, the Hanukkia was found on the banks of the Neuer See. Witnesses had reported the find. Emergency services brought the candelabrum back to its location on Hofjägerallee. Apart from several lamp bodies that had slipped out, the Hanukkah candelabra remained undamaged.

Unknown persons had previously damaged a Hanukkah candelabra in Tempelhof-Schöneberg late on Monday evening. According to the police, unknown persons had torn off one of the eight lights, and a sign attached to the candelabra was also removed.

Last week, an unknown person had already knocked over a Hanukkia in Berlin-Schmargendorf. The State Criminal Police Office is now investigating all three cases.

The Jewish festival of Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem after an uprising against the Greeks in 164 BC and the "miracle of light" of a candle burning for eight days. This year it lasts from December 7 to the evening of December 15.
