Another letter with a hate message discovered at a mosque
Following similar cases at the end of October, a hate message containing Islamophobic statements has once again been discovered in the letterbox of a mosque in Recklinghausen. In this case too, the message was accompanied by faeces and pieces of meat, the police announced on Thursday. State security has taken over the investigation.
The police are looking for witnesses. It is possible that the message had been in the letterbox for several days, they said. The police had already seized letters with hate messages and dog excrement at two mosques in the district of Recklinghausen at the end of October. In each of the cases in Recklinghausen and Castrop-Rauxel, an envelope was found that also contained Koran pages, some of which had been burnt.
The discovery of hate messages at mosques in Recklinghausen has raised concerns about the rise of religious extremism in the area. This form of crime is not only disrespectful but also dangerously divisive, stirring up tensions between different faiths.
