Another test of patience for drivers on the A40 in the Ruhr region: In addition to the 15-week closure at Bochum, the heavily traveled highway will also be closed in the direction of Essen from tonight (21:00) at Duisburg due to construction work.

The closure will occur in two phases, as announced by the motorway company: initially, the entire stretch between Duisburg-Rheinhausen and the Kaiserberg motorway junction will be affected from Friday evening until Monday morning at 5:00.

On Monday morning, the section between Rheinhausen and the Duisburg motorway junction will be reopened. The remaining closure up to the Kaiserberg junction will then continue until August 19, as announced by the motorway company. Detours will be set up and marked with a red dot.

For the demolition of a bridge and a new construction, the motorway company had already closed the A40 in both directions at Bochum for 15 weeks starting Tuesday. The closed section is between the Bochum-West junction and the Bochum-Harpen exit. Traffic will be rerouted. Around 100,000 cars travel on the A40 in the Ruhr region on weekdays.

The closure on the A40 in Duisburg is part of the broader transport and telecommunications infrastructure upgrades, affecting both road and telecommunication networks. Due to this, travelers in the Ruhr region may need to consider alternative transport options during this period to avoid delays.
