Triathlon - Anne Haug wins in Roth with world best time
Anne Haug won the Challenge Roth for the third time in her triathlon career and impressively broke the one-year-old world record. The 41-year-old Bayreuth native, who had only registered for her hometown race on Monday due to a health-related heavy start of the season, won the classic in unofficial 8:02:38 hours.
She remained almost six minutes under the previous record after 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling, and 42.2 kilometers of running. This record was set by the Swiss triathlon icon Daniela Ryf in 8:08:21 hours at the same event last year, breaking the previous 12-year-old record from Roth.
For Haug, who won the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii in 2019, this is another milestone in her career. She had already won in Roth in 2021 and 2023. In the finish chute, Haug clapped hands with the spectators, took off her sunglasses, and enjoyed the last meters of her famous race with a final marathon in 2:38:52 hours.
Anne Haug's triumphant victory in Challenge Roth once again placed Germany on the global triathlon map. Bavaria, being the host region, celebrated Haug's achievement, especially given her connection to the city of Bayreuth. In the upcoming Challenge Roth events, Anne Haug's name will undoubtedly be mentioned alongside the legendary triathletes who have achieved records at the Roth event, such as Daniela Ryf from Switzerland.
