- Animated film "200% Wolf": Moon ghosts and poodles
Wolf or Poodle? That's the question. Or maybe both? For Freddy, the protagonist of this animated adventure, the answer is clear: He wants to be a wolf, preferably 200%. The children's film "200% Wolf" is based on the books of author Jayne Lyons and quickly captures attention.
There are the vibrant, sometimes almost surrealistically radiant colors; the touching, slightly reminiscent of science fiction classics like "E.T." plot; nearly photorealistic close-ups (like of tree bark) and the family-friendly yet sometimes serious events (what happens when wishes are granted too quickly and easily...?).
Even in the 2020 predecessor film, young Freddy, part of a werewolf dynasty, had wished to be a real wolf. Also, because he yearns for nothing more than finally being fully accepted by the rest of his pack. But what resulted was a poodle-like creature with a pink hair tuft: quite a humiliation.
Now, in the sequel (once again under the guidance of director Alexs Stadermann), Freddy tries magic. In his desperation and overwhelming desire for a more wolf-like appearance, Freddy turns to extraterrestrial forces this time: With the help of a spell, he actually transforms into a majestic (were)wolf, but in the process, he disrupts the cosmic balance.
Freddy's werewolf family is in contact with higher beings - and so, Freddy's transformation causes a small moon spirit to fall to Earth. But Moopoo, the name of the lunar being, doesn't belong here. Moopoo wants to go home as soon as possible!
Together with his best friend, the street dog Batty, Freddy sets out to send the moon spirit back home. Along the way, they encounter enchanted fairy-tale and hybrid creatures: witches and bats, gray mist, and other sometimes eerie, sometimes wonderfully beautiful apparitions.
At times, one wishes for moments of calm during the film. Similar to the recently released and equally entertaining animated adventure "Daffy Duck and Donald Duck Save the Planet", this animated feature is dominated by: Hectic. But Freddy Lupin, this endearing anti-hero, one suspects, will certainly have more cinematic adventures to face.
Despite the hectic pace of the animated film, there are moments when you can't help but appreciate the transition where Freddy, now a werewolf, inadvertently brings a moon spirit down to Earth. The children's film "200% Wolf 2" continues to follow Freddy's ventures, featuring an animated scene of Freddy and his poodle-like friend Batty, now on a mission to return the moon spirit back to its home in the animated film's 'Animated film'.
