Before the summer vacation - Animal welfare association: animal shelters in the country very full

Before summer holidays, animal shelters in Rhineland-Palatinate, according to the Animal Welfare League, are very full, as stated by the chairwoman of the Rhineland-Palatinate branch, Anna-Lena Busch. "There are already many shelters that can no longer take in animals," she said. "They generally have quite a lot to do."

In the past, animals were often given up during summer holidays because people went on vacation and had no place to leave their pets. That's no longer the case, Busch said. The situation at animal shelters is now tense all year round. One reason for this is that home office regulations, which were partially lifted after the pandemic, have meant that people cannot adequately care for their animals.

A Responsibility for Life

"I would wish that people would really think about it before they bring an animal into their home," Busch said. "It's a responsibility for life." From politics, Busch is calling for more financial support for animal shelters. A certificate of competence for dog owners would also be sensible.

To draw attention to the situation of animal shelters in the state, the association plans to hold a demonstration in Mainz on July 27.

The Animal Welfare Association in Rhineland-Palatinate is organizing a demonstration in Mainz on July 27, aiming to highlight the ongoing strain on animal shelters throughout the Summer vacation in the region. Despite the past trend of animals being abandoned during summer vacations, the situation at these shelters has become tense year-round, as mentioned by Anna-Lena Busch, the chairwoman of the Rhineland-Palatinate branch.
