Cultural policy - Anhalt spends around 212 million euros on culture in the state
For theaters and orchestras, the renovation of palaces and castles and the preparation of anniversaries: Saxony-Anhalt will spend around 212 million euros on culture in the coming year. "The financial support will help to strengthen existing cultural institutions and promote innovative projects," explained Minister of State and Culture Rainer Robra (CDU) on Friday. Saxony-Anhalt is to be further established as a cultural beacon. On Thursday, the state parliament approved the budget for 2024.
According to the ministry, the main focus of cultural funding is on contract-based theater and orchestra funding, which will receive a good 51 million euros. Foundations in the cultural sector will receive 80.5 million euros, including the Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation, which is currently implementing a 200-million-euro special investment program, as well as the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation, which is also tackling its renovation backlog. In addition, preparations for the commemoration of 500 years of the German Peasants' War are continuing.
In addition to large-scale projects, the budget also allows for a variety of small projects that also benefit rural areas in Saxony-Anhalt, the report continued. For example, there is a funding focus on socio-culture and the preservation of tradition and local history, for example with the model project "Low German in schools". Volunteer Low German speakers are brought together with teachers to establish or continue Low German clubs at selected elementary school in rural areas.

Households in Saxony-Anhalt can also benefit from cultural funding, as the budget includes a focus on socio-culture and the preservation of local history, like the "Low German in schools" project.
