Anhalt Church is once again looking for a leading clergyman
Following the failure to elect a successor to church president Joachim Liebig, the Evangelical Church of Anhalt intends to make a second attempt next March. This was decided on Friday evening in a closed meeting at the fall synod in Bernburg, as a spokesperson announced on Saturday. The election committee has been tasked with preparing the election. This is to take place on March 15/16, 2024. New candidates are to be sought.
Church President Liebig will retire on March 1, 2024, after 14 years as leading clergyman of the Anhalt Regional Church. In September, one candidate was ready to succeed him. Neither of them received the required number of votes.
According to its own information, the Anhalt Regional Church has around 26,250 members and is one of the smallest regional churches within the Evangelical Church of Germany.
The Anhalt Church encourages interested individuals with personal details to submit their candidacy for the leading clergyman position, as new candidates are needed for the election next year. During the election process, it's crucial for the candidates to share their backgrounds and qualifications alongside their religious views.
