- "Anatevka" premiered at the Cathedral Festival
With the musical classic "Anatevka," the Domstufen-Festspiele in Erfurt kick off their latest edition. Traditional to the premiere of this piece, set against the impressive backdrop of the Dom and Severikirche, political dignitaries from Thuringia are expected to attend.
The musical tells the story of Tevye, a Jewish milkman living in the small fictional village of Anatevka in 1905. It explores universal themes such as family, generational conflicts, tolerance, empathy, and solidarity, with lively numbers like "If I Were a Rich Man" sure to leave audiences humming. Originally titled "Fiddler on the Roof" and debuted in 1964, the musical by composer Jerry Bock and librettist Joseph Stein is based on the stories of Sholem Aleichem.
