Road congestion - An investigation discovers that a ten-lane extension of the A5 road is feasible.
A study suggests that expanding the A5 highway between Frankfurt interchange and Friedberg junction into a ten-lane stretch is technically feasible. This would improve traffic flow, stated Autobahn GmbH on Wednesday.
Considering the projected traffic demand, four possible options were examined. Apart from traffic flow, factors like environmental impact, land consumption, air pollution, and noise control were assessed. If an uninterrupted ten-lane expansion is reinforced on both sides, it will cost approximately 1.1 billion euros, according to current estimates.

The feasibility study for the A5 road expansion also considered the impact on local connections, such as the connection point between Frankfurt and Friedberg. This expansion could further facilitate future road expansion projects in Hesse. Conducting a feasibility study for incorporating a new traffic management system at the connection point between the A5 and local roads in Friedberg could also be beneficial, given the projected traffic increase.
