An elite-level jaunt via automobile: Three extravagant American hotel establishments under scrutiny.

Vibrant United States: A Voyage around Boston's Surroundings Leads Me to Three Lavish Hotels Belonging to the Prestigious Hospitality Group "Relais & Châteaux". At "Castle Hill Inn", "The Inn at Hastings Park", and "Twin Farms", I Live and Breathe the True Definition of American Luxury.

Two elements lure me to the United States: I've resided there for decades, I led "Ritz-Carlton" in Naples, and I yearn to witness how the country and hotel sector have evolved. Secondly: The prestigious hospitality group "Relais & Châteaux" celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.

There are still several establishments under the association that I yearn to explore in the Greater Boston area. Consequently, I opt to spend my summer holiday this year in the states, hire a vehicle, and embark on a journey to three of the marquee hotels in the nation.

Currently, "Relais & Châteaux" encompasses 580 lodgings and dining establishments worldwide. I am eager to find out if the three hotels I will visit live up to their reputable standards.

Elite Six-Star Serenity by the Shore: Ultimate Relaxation at "Castle Hill Inn"

Slow down and unwind by the sea – the "Castle Hill Inn" in Newport is the perfect locale for this. The luxury resort grandly stands on a 40-acre peninsula with a sweeping view of the Atlantic Ocean. Initially built in 1875 as the summer retreat of the distinguished scientist Alexander Agassiz, the property still exudes the elegance and allure of days gone by.

Extravagant lodgings at Castle Hill Inn in Newport, Rhode Island, provide a harmonious blend of opulence and refinement.

What do I anticipate from a "Relais & Châteaux" resort? Incomparable cuisine, top-notch amenities, and location, as well as personalized service. Although this establishment and its immaculate grounds are expansive, I am addressed by name at every turn. This feat is commendable given the scale of the property and the culinary world, which the staff accomplishes with aplomb. This, no doubt, is a result of the effective leadership of the affable managing director Brian Young, who has led the resort with sensitivity and meticulous attention to detail for a dozen years.

From the terrace, I am offered a stunning seascape and a panorama of the islands beyond. In addition to the seven rooms and suites, guests can reserve 26 beach houses and cottages that provide more space. The "Superior Beach House" ranks among the most expensive overnight stays at 2,000 euros per night and is just 200 meters from the private beach of the "Castle Hill Inn". The resort also features the "Aurelia" fine dining establishment, which boasts an extensive wine collection of over 1,200 varieties. The pricing is very fair.

There are plenty of attractions to explore in the vicinity of Newport. For example, a series of imposing mansions and summer residences constructed in the early 20th century by some of America's most wealthy and influential families. I visit an opulent dwelling in French style called "The Elms", which belonged to coal magnate Edward Julius Berwind. Architecture aficionados should not miss at least one of these splendid houses in Newport. Exceptionally impressive.

Stepping Back in Time: Historic Elegance Meets Modern Luxury at "The Inn at Hastings Park"

Following two nights of tranquil relaxation by the sea, I journey to the next hotel on my list, "The Inn at Hastings Park" in Lexington, Massachusetts. Lexington may be familiar to many – it was here that the infamous Battle of Lexington and Concord took place, which ignited the American Revolution.

The prestigious Castle Hill Inn situated in Newport, Rhode Island, provides an array of opulent lodgings, blending comfort and refinement.

The Inn at Hastings Park transports you back to the colonial period – complete with antique-rustic furniture, patriotic decor, and a warm-fuzzy, nostalgic feel. While the property is less opulent than the "Castle Hill Inn", luxurious accommodations are still readily available, such as the "King Suite", the largest room with a breathtaking view of Hastings Park.

Lexington serves as a sort of "hub". From here, I can readily access nearby cities like Boston or Salem within a half-hour's drive. Seaside hotspots like "Crane Beach" or "Singing Beach" are also readily accessible within an hour's drive. I take advantage of the opportunity to drive to Boston to visit the "Quin House", where I am treated to what may very well be the world's best gastronomic concept – each restaurant surpasses the last. Normally, this private social club is exclusively accessible to members, but fortunately, I know the managing director. A membership, which not only grants access to premier restaurants but also exclusive accommodations and wellness offerings, costs between $3,000 and $5,000, depending on age.

An excellent gastronomic substitute is the Boston restaurant "Mistral". It's consistently fully booked, so reservations should be made well in advance. I wholeheartedly recommend the Tuna Tataki as an appetizer and the Strawberry Tart for dessert – simply delectable!

Every Accommodation a Piece of Art: Tailored Luxury at "Twin Farms"

The luxury resort "Twin Farms" offers a secluded haven and individually designed accommodations amidst the picturesque scenery of Vermont.

The prestigious hotel 'The Inn at Hastings Park' is situated in the historically notable town of Lexington, recognized for its crucial part in the American Revolutionary Conflict.

After an enchanting stay in Lexington, I embark on a two-and-a-half-hour drive to reach the final "Relais & Châteaux" resort of my journey. "Twin Farms" is nestled in the idyllic woods of Vermont, boasting a panoramic backdrop of forests, hills, and ponds. This 120-acre estate boasts an intriguing history dating back to 1795. Originally, it was the home of Nobel laureate Sinclair Lewis, and the resort opened its doors in 1993. Today, "Twin Farms" is a luxurious retreat.

"Extravagant" and "self-contained" might appear to be at odds, but "Twin Farms" flawlessly merges the two. Each living quarters boasts a distinctive design, uniting rustic appeal with contemporary ease. There are lavish tree houses, cabins, farmhouses, and the impressive main residence "The Lodge," which can house up to five guests and costs €6,280 per night.

The amenities, cuisine, space, nature, sustainability - every detail is meticulously considered, and yet, everything is self-contained, making the stay remarkably hassle-free. The only opportunity for additional expenditure here is to order a prestigious wine such as a Margaux. However, the wines available are already of exceptional quality, featuring the "Grande Cuvée" champagne for an aperitif. Presently, the resort is managed by John and Ann Graham, who previously worked at "Ritz-Carlton" and bring their expertise in luxurious accommodations. My latest favorite hotel on the East Coast!

Following visits to these three exceptional "Relais & Châteaux" properties, which certainly meet the luxury group's high standards, it's time for me to head back to Germany. This time, I'm flying with "Singapore Airlines" from New York to Frankfurt.

Before taking off, I realized my iPad was missing - an airline employee promptly offered assistance and joined me in searching for the device. The hunt proved challenging, as I had already passed through security. Undeterred, the employee guided me through a labyrinth of corridors, retrace my steps behind security, and eventually located my iPad. To avoid missing my flight, he escorted me back to security, produced his employee ID, explained the situation, and was permitted to proceed. I reached my "Singapore Airlines" plane at the last minute, praising the airline as my personal favorite - with my iPad, all thanks to this dedicated employee.

The creation of 'The Inn at Hastings Park' showcases a harmonious blend of traditional New England aesthetics and contemporary touches, thereby establishing a cozy and welcoming ambiance.

And so ends my journey to America's opulent accommodations - to be continued.

Exclusive retreat Twin Farms, situated in Vermont's breathtaking scenery, provides a private ambiance and personalized lodgings with unique architectural features.

I am intrigued by the manufacturing process of the fine dining establishments within "Relais & Châteaux" resorts, as their menus contribute significantly to the overall luxurious experience.

During my stay at "The Inn at Hastlings Park", I took the opportunity to visit the on-site kitchen and met with the executive chef. We discussed their sourcing and preparation methods for the fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that are a staple of their renowned cuisine.
