Judicial body - An elderly caregiver faces three years in prison for committing fraud.

A 40-year-old lawyer got a three-year prison sentence for defrauding an elderly person at a nursing home. This happened after the Frankfurt District Court reviewed a detailed confession of embezzled loans, lavish gifts, and the purchase of an extravagant car worth 79,000 euros using the victim's funds. The total loss for the 88-year-old victim was around 630,000 euros. The caregiver of the senior was initially detained.

The relatively light sentence was because the defendant returned 200,000 euros to the elderly person in the courtroom. The court stated that the rest of the money will be given back to the 88-year-old as soon as possible.

In 2023, the victim's family noticed something fishy happening to their loved one's finances. Among the illegal assets seized was a luxury SUV the lawyer bought for herself using the wealthy pensioner's money. This car was taken by the court. A deal was made with the Economic Crimes Chamber after the confession. The initial punishment of three and a half years in jail was reduced further because of the partial return of the losses. The verdict is still pending approval.
