- Amiri yearns for DFB comeback: Capable of performing at a high standard
Footballer Nadiem Amiri from FSV Mainz 05 is wishing for an invite to the German national football team squad, following his successful free-kick goal in the 1:1 tie against 1. FC Union Berlin. "It's every soccer player's wish to represent their nation, their national team. I'm positive I've got what it takes to play at that level," Amiri mentioned post-Bundesliga kickoff.
The retreat of Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gündogan has left a space in the midfield of the DFB team. Amiri is one of the potential replacements that could slot into that spot. Responding to whether he'd had recent conversations with Team Manager Julian Nagelsmann, Amiri just stated: "Nope."
Amiri was a vital player in Mainz's successful quest to maintain their Bundesliga position during the second half of the previous season. "He's an outstanding footballer," praised Mainz coach Bo Henriksen.
Henriksen: "Why not again then?"
Amiri's next international fixtures with the Nagelsmann squad are on September 7 against Hungary and on September 10 in the Netherlands. If chosen, it would be Amiri's comeback to the DFB team after a lengthy hiatus. He has previously represented Germany in five international matches, back in 2019 and 2020, under Joachim Löw's leadership. "He's played for the German national team. So why not yet again?" Henriksen questioned.
Amiri expressed his desire to play for the German national team, stating, "It's every soccer player's wish to represent their nation, their national team." With Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gündogan potentially not available, Amiri could be a viable option to fill the midfield spot in the DFB team.
