Council for Refugees Offers Assistance - Alternative accommodation options as opposed to large-scale housing developments.
The Saxon Refugee Council is requesting a change in the living conditions of refugees. They insist on better accommodations by moving away from mass housing arrangements. The council's position paper outlines this demand ahead of the state elections taking place on September 1st. Along with this request, there's also a need for easier access to the job market alongside the removal of work bans. "As more and more companies are welcoming refugees, it's time for a change in the bureaucratic red tape," explained Dave Schmidtke from the Refugee Council during a statement on Wednesday.
He further added, "In order for the commission to maintain its credibility, it also requires a humanitarian facelift." The Left parliamentary group had previously advocated for reforming the commission as well. The purpose of the Commission on Hardship Cases is to provide a residence permit to foreigners facing deportation due to diseases, pregnancy, or other personal tragedies, as mentioned on the website of the Saxon Commissioner for Foreigners.
