Altan in the Dresden Residenzschloss restored
The Altan in Dresden's Residenzschloss has been restored. The four-storey loggia with its biblical fresco cycle and sculptures can once again be admired in all its beauty, the Ministry of Finance announced in Dresden on Friday. "If one word can best describe the work on the Altan, it is continuity. This applies both to the long-standing planning process and the work of the restorers on site over the years," said Finance Minister Hartmut Vorjohann (CDU).
The first preliminary considerations regarding the design of the Altan were already made in the 1980s, he said. The aim was to restore the original version from the 16th century. According to the information provided, the construction work on the Altan included the reconstruction of the shell, the development of the motifs and the implementation of the motifs. The development of the fresco motifs alone took over ten years.
In addition to the Altan, further construction work is also being carried out on the Residenzschloss. The federal and state governments have invested a total of around 396 million in the restoration of the Dresden Residenzschloss to date, it was reported.
The restoration of the Altan in the Dresden Residenzschloss allows us to appreciate its rich History in Architecture once more. The restoration process, spanning decades, underscores the importance of preserving Architectural Heritage from the past.
