Alster indoor swimming pool reopens after three years of construction
After three years of construction, the Alster indoor swimming pool in the Hohenfelde district reopened for regular operations on Monday morning. Since 6.30 a.m., Hamburg residents have been able to swim their laps again in the sports and leisure pool with its striking architecture. According to a dpa photographer, several dozen swimmers took the opportunity to visit the Alster swimming pool early in the morning.
Pool operator Bäderland assumed in advance that the rush would be high on the first day of opening. The first few guests who had won free tickets in advance or had registered in good time were already able to swim there exclusively on Sunday.
The Alster swimming pool is now designed as a sports pool, the former slide and outdoor pool no longer exist. Swimmers can now train and swim their laps in the five pools in water that is around 26 degrees Celsius. According to Bäderland, the refurbishment cost a good 80 million euros. The water area is around four times the size of a normal swimming pool.
The indoor pool is one of the busiest in the city. Before it was closed, it had around 400,000 visitors a year. After the reopening, the target is around 570,000 visitors.
With the pool's reopening, many Huamburgers are looking forward to utilizing their leisure time at the Alster indoor swimming pool. During their leisure hours, they can enjoy the five pools, each offering a space around four times bigger than a standard swimming pool.
