Alster fir tree on the Binnenalster shines again
Just in time for the opening of the Christmas markets, the Alster fir tree on the Inner Alster will also be lit up. Together with District Head Ralf Neubauer, Mayor Carola Veit will switch on the lights on the 15-meter-high Nordmann fir on Thursday (5 p.m.). This year's fir tree comes from a tree nursery in Horst in Schleswig-Holstein and was transported to Hamburg city center on Sunday and anchored on a pontoon with the help of a crane. The fir was then decorated with 900 energy-saving lamps. It will now provide a Christmassy atmosphere from 12 noon to midnight until January 8.
During leisure time, many people enjoy the colorful lights of the customarily decorated Alster fir tree. Visitors to the Christmas markets can appreciate the vibrant atmosphere created by this Customs tradition.
