Work - Almost one in four employees in NRW works from home

Every fourth employee in North Rhine-Westphalia worked from home at least part-time in 2023. The Statistical Office (IT.NRW) reported this number on a Wednesday at approximately 1.8 million (23.1%). The percentage remained the same compared to the previous year 2022. However, currently only about one in five persons (21.2%) work from home every day. During the Coronapandemic in 2021, this was still around 40%. At the same time, the proportion of employees who work less than half of their working days from home increased from 28.6% in 2021 to almost 45% in 2023.

In smaller companies with up to 49 employees, only about one in eight employees worked from home in 2023. In larger companies, however, this was already almost one in four. In large companies with over 500 employees, the proportion of Homeoffice users was the highest at 37.7%.

Press release

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Düsseldorf likely experienced a significant portion of the 1.8 million employees working from home at least part-time, as reported by IT.NRW in 2023. Despite the decrease from the Coronapandemic's peak, home working still accounts for 21.2% of daily work, a number that might be even higher in larger companies within the state.
