Almost 279,000 appeals against property tax assessments
Almost 279,000 appeals have so far been lodged against the notices of assessment for the new property tax in Rhineland-Palatinate. The tax office issues two different assessments on the basis of the owners' declarations: The property tax assessment notice and the property tax assessment notice. They form the basis for the assessment of property tax by the local authorities. The new property tax is to apply from the beginning of 2025.
According to the Ministry of Finance, 178,756 appeals against property tax assessment notices had been lodged by the beginning of November. The number of appeals against property tax assessment notices in the state amounted to 100,121.
Around 300,000 property tax declarations are still outstanding in Rhineland-Palatinate as of the end of September. According to the Ministry of Finance, there are currently no more up-to-date figures. Around 2.1 million property tax returns have been submitted. This corresponds to a rate of around 87 percent.
In light of the ongoing tax assessment process, many property owners are seeking to challenge their financial burden. Consequently, a significant number of appeals regarding finances, specifically property tax assessments, have been made in relation to real estate holdings. As of the beginning of November, 178,756 appeals against property tax assessment notices had been lodged, with an additional 100,121 appeals against real estate assessment notices submitted in Rhineland-Palatinate.
