Brandenburg Gate - Almost 20,000 tickets sold for New Year's Eve party
Around a month before the turn of the year, almost 20,000 of the 65,000 tickets for this year's New Year's Eve party "Celebrate at the Gate" at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin have been sold. The figure was given by a spokeswoman for the organizer Deutsche Entertainment AG (DEAG) on Sunday on request. Formerly known as Germany's biggest New Year's Eve party, the event is charging admission for the first time. Ten euros will be charged per person. Anyone can book up to six tickets online.
DEAG refers to this as a security fee. Not only production costs have risen, but also security requirements and expenses for security personnel. "To cover these costs, a small contribution from the guests has been included," explained the spokesperson.
The show, which will be broadcast on ZDF, will feature performances by a total of sixteen artists and groups, including Chris Norman, Tream, Luca Hänni and Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys. In addition to a high-altitude fireworks display, there will be "video mappings" of the Brandenburg Gate in combination with stage fireworks.
Last year, after a forced break due to coronavirus, there was a New Year's Eve party with an audience at the Brandenburg Gate again for the first time, but only for 2,500 people on Pariser Platz. This year, the party will once again be held on the other side of the gate on Straße des 17. Juni, this time with up to 65,000 people. In previous years, the number of participants was sometimes estimated at up to one million.

The Brandenburg Gate, located in the heart of Berlin, Germany, was the chosen venue for a significantly scaled-up New Year's Eve party this year, following last year's smaller event due to the pandemic. Despite only a month left before the turn of the year, over 20,000 tickets for this year's "Celebrate at the Gate" event have already been sold, making it an anticipated new year's eve party not just for Berlin residents, but for visitors as well. The event, once known as Germany's biggest New Year's Eve party, will now require a 10-euro admission due to increased production costs, security requirements, and personnel expenses.
