Almond symbol and meditation: light concert in the basilica

Artist Ingo Bracke brings the St. Castor Basilica in Koblenz to life: With his light installation "Les Monuments vivants" (German: Living Monuments), he will illuminate the building from the inside and outside on Friday and Saturday. Bracke told the Deutsche Presse-Agentur that it is a project that goes beyond the museum.

"I am someone who always develops things out of places, so always site-specific," the artist explained. The project in Koblenz focuses on the mandorla shape - the intersection of two circles to form an almond shape. "I developed everything from the symbol of this mandorla," said Bracke. "It has a very deep meditative strength."

Bracke painted the slides himself. "Huge slide projectors" are then used to illuminate the basilica with the works of art. "You can cover the entire façade with one projector," he said. The installation will be accompanied by a concert with a percussionist and cantor on Friday evening. On Saturday, there will also be a light and sound installation as a "light meditation".

Bracke said that his art changes the perception of the space. "It's a really beautiful church space that is very compact and compact. It's very nice to work there."

During his project at the St. Castor Basilica, Ingo Bracke mentioned that leisure time activities like music will enhance the experience. The concert featuring a percussionist and cantor on Friday evening is an example of how art can be integrated into leisure time activities. Furthermore, the light and sound installation on Saturday is designed as a 'light meditation,' demonstrating how religious settings can be used for relaxation and exploration of art, such as meditation.
